The first weekend of March will be a joyous occasion at Calvary Lutheran
Church as three members of the congregation, Karen Papay, Barbara Stuffer and
Frank DiEugenio will be commissioned as Stephen Ministers. The rite of
commissioning is planned for the Saturday evening service on March 1st
at 5:30pm and at both Sunday services on March 2nd, 8:30 and
11:00am. This culminates 50 hours of intensive training and preparation for
this special ministry of care and concern. Calvary’s Stephen Ministers have
trained extensively in such areas as dealing with feelings, crisis intervention,
asserting oneself with gentleness and firmness, and numerous other topics
dealing with specific aspects of helping people who are experiencing problems in
their lives.
Following their commissioning, these Stephen Ministers will join four other
active Stephen Ministers at Calvary and will carry out a caring ministry both at
Calvary and in the community, meeting the needs of people who are experiencing
life crises such as hospitalization, retirement, terminal illness, loss of a
loved one, unemployment, as well as many other problems people experience in
living their daily lives. This uniquely Christian and
confidential ministry
plays an important role in the life of an individual who is in a place of life
where they need someone to listen and the hand of Christian love extended.
