ANNOUNCEMENTS
We welcome Pastor Roger Nuerge
(Chaplain for Concordia Home
Ministries) who is leading us in worship this morning (July 5th).
This
summer's VBS is set for July 6-10th.
Come and explore Gadget's Garage, where kids ages 3-10 learn that God's
Always Doing Great Exciting
Things. Register early and receive a FREE CD of all of the
music from Gadget's Garage and many favorites from previous years. Volunteers
are still needed. See Laura Schumm for more information.
First Evangelical Lutheran Church located on the corner of Sixth
and Clay Streets in Sharpsburg have voted to disband and will have a
commemorative service on Sunday, July 5th at 2:00 p.m. in the
church. The Rev. Dr. Arnold E. Kromphardt will be the guest preacher. Please
join us for this special service and the reception to follow in the
educational building.
Sanctuary Rededication - We will
celebrate on Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19 as we rededicate our
sanctuary to the glory of God. New and old officers will be installed and we
will give thanks to God for all that is going on in and through Calvary.
Praise the Lord!
Reserving Meeting Space - First of all,
thank you for all that you do to serve
the Lord and His people at Calvary in all of your missions and ministry. Your
service is vital to our growth in Christ.
Secondly, we have a growing challenge as to where and when people
can meet. We are running out of space and this is a good challenge for us to
face. I know you need to meet with others serving the Lord with you and you
need the space to do so. Help us help you.
Please send Kathy Hoener
hoener5@windstream.net your
needs for meeting space. Times and dates and about how many people meet with
you. An example
would be - "Laura Schumm and I need the fellowship hall every Tuesday
afternoon from 4:30-5:30" This
information would then be passed along to a committee who could then determine
how all of these requests can be met in the space we have here at Calvary. Thank you for your
help and partnership in ministry!
Volunteers needed to
become involved as service workers. There is a need for additional
ushers, greeters, and readers. These jobs do not require any meetings,
just your attendance at worship. Please let Pastor or Bob Kemper know if
you are willing to help.
Thank you! Jack and Donna Petrosky would like to thank you
for all the prayers, get well cards and meals received during Jack’s recent
surgery.
Longaberger Consultant - I'm
just writing to let you know that I signed up over the weekend to be a
Longaberger Consultant so I can work while still being able to stay home with
Collin. Please pass the word to anyone who would be interested. They can give
me a call at 412-496-8146 for a website they could shop on or with any
questions they may have. Thank you, Sara Hackwelder (member 8:30
service)
Emergency Personnel Appreciation Night, Sunday, July 19th
at 7:30 p.m. at 1st United Methodist Church. This will be an
evening of musical fun, ice cream and thanks for the Emergency Personnel who
serve our community. A free will offering will be taken to support the
Emergency Personnel units.
Baby
Bottle campaign in support of Crossroads Pregnancy Services in
Monroeville has started. The bottles are available in the narthex for you to
pick up and to put your extra change in. The campaign will run till the end of
July. Thank you for your support of this ministry in helping to save the
lives of the unborn babies.
Jeremiah 1:5..."Before I
formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born I set you apart."
Prayer
Shawl Ministry is a new mission/service ministry getting started at
Calvary. Because there are so many people in need of prayer and because
we want to do more than just say we are praying for them, we are starting this
ministry so that we are able to offer tangible evidence to those for whom we
pray. The shawls can be wither knitted or crocheted. If you are
interested in getting involved, please speak to Ruth Greer, 412-372-3315,
ragreer@comcast.net
.
Attention all crafters -It is not too
early to be thinking about crafts for the craft fair in November. Last year
we had too few items and many interested customers looking or more. If we can
get some ideas and work together to get things made, we can change that. I
would like to set up some craft nights to get us started. Be thinking of
ideas, and watch for further information. Please contact me with ideas you
may have. Thank you. Kathy Hoener 724-327-9170 or
hoener5@windstream.net
Friends of Pioneer
- Thank-you to those of
you who have been adding supplies to the Pioneer bin. All the children at
Camp will truly appreciate your efforts as they enjoy that special camping
experience. Please continue to shop and donate, as you wish. I am going to
be making a project that uses small cans, but I need ones with no 'lips'. If
you can help out, please see me. Deb
The Rockettes from New York City's Radio City
Music Hall will
be performing in Pittsburgh to "kick-off" the 2009 Christmas season. Calvary
has group tickets reserved for the first Sunday in Advent: November 29th
at 3:30 p.m. The price is $60.50 per ticket. The performance is five months
away, but the tickets are already going fast. Check out the bulletin and
June's Communicator for information on how you can get yours. Laura
Schumm
You can participate in our CHURCH
BEAUTIFICATION project. The decorative tiles around our cross are
available to purchase “in memory or honor of” a loved one for the cost of $120
per tile. THERE IS NOW NO LIMIT OF
TILES A FAMILY CAN PURCHASE. This cost covers the tiles, installation,
and a commemorative plaque to be placed in the back of the sanctuary at some
future time.
Box Tops for Education
With your help, the
school has received about $750 through the Box Tops for Education
Program this year. Thank you so much. You can keep saving on your butterfly
sheets. If you need a new collection sheet, see Laura Schumm. Thank you.
Rest assured our future has been and always will
be in God’s hands. He knows what is best for His people. SMALL
GROUP/LIFE MINISTRY will be more and more important to strengthening
our faith in Christ and caring for the people around us as this future
unfolds. Train to lead a Life Group and plan to join one sooner than later.
You will be blessed in the process. Do it today. See Bob Kemper or Pastor for
more details.
Interested in a women's Bible study or just want to chat?
Join Calvary's new E-Group, "The
Calvary Crowd". This is a forum that is great for staying in touch and
sharing with a group of friends that you don't have to go out in the cold to
attend! Drop Jamie Thiem a note at
ourtrustinhim@verizon.net
and you will receive an invitation to join. You will need a Yahoo account, or
need to set one up for access. Instructions to do so are easy and will be sent
to you. Hope to 'see' you there!
Women’s Bible Study
is held on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Bring your Bible, and get ready to
get into God’s Word. All women are invited.
Giving Plus Program – Thrivent Financial’s Giving Plus Program
is an excellent way to make a donation
to Calvary Early Learning Center or the Sonshine Kitchen and have it matched
$1 for every $2 donated. The program is available to all benefit members
of Thrivent 16 years and older. Donations up to $600 to two different eligible
organizations will be matched and can be made each year. A Giving Plus Form
needs to accompany your check. Forms are available from Ruth Greer for Calvary
Early Learning Center and Barb Stuffer for the Sonshine Kitchen. Any
questions, please speak to Ruth Greer at (412) 372-3315.
